St John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church
Lent Through Pascha - 2025
During the Lenten and Pascha season, I had the blessing to photograph during the various services throughout. The Orthodox Church is meant to be experienced in person, but I still tried my best to try and capture what was standing out to me over the course of 47 days, and the service gatherings I was able to attend and participate in. There are moments of great crowds and moments of more intimate gatherings. Please join me through this photographic journey.
A little insight into the photos. There is a seemingly repetitive nature to what we see over the course of several weeks, and I can understand the feeling of it. When you seem a priest carrying large cups, especially in the aisles, it’s a symbol of Jesus Himself walking in our midst. Occasionally the priest has his head veiled during this procession, with everyone kneeling prostrate, as it is a sign of reverence.
