Holy Monday
The Bridegroom Service
What is called Holy Monday, begins a series of daily services called the Bridegroom service. We enter together into journey of Jesus in Jerusalem. Monday is a quieter day than Palm Sunday and in some ways it seemed somewhat fitting. Many of the scripture readings come from Jesus teaching His disciples. The timeline of the readings are in a way out of time. They are rooted in a way of looking forward to the cross, after the cross, then, now, and for what is to come.
“Behold the Bridegroom cometh in the midst of the night, and blessed is the servant whom He shall find watching…
Brethren, let us love the Bridegroom, and carefully keep our torches aflame with virtues and the true Faith; that, like the wise virgins of the Lord, we may be ready to enter with Him to the marriage feast; for the Bridegroom, as God, bestows a gift on all, the incorruptible crown.”
