Holy Thursday
The Mystical Supper
Central to any liturgical service is the Eucharist. The giving of the Eucharist is a liturgy within a liturgy. On Holy Thursday is a commemoration and participation of the original Lord’s Supper, where He institutes the New Covenant out of His own body and blood. There is a mixed feeling in the air. One of an anticipation of hope and another of coming betrayal. The idea of being in the presence of God and being hunted by a nameless mob was bouncing in my mind.
“For I myself have received from the Lord (what I also delivered to you), that the Lord Jesus, on the night in which He was betrayed, took bread, and giving thanks broke, and said, “This is my body which shall be given up for you; do this in remembrance of me…”
